View Full Version : Harrah's East Chicago Tonight

I'll be at Harrah's EC tonight at $5-10 or $10-20. Since my description matches half the folks there, I'll wear a blue shirt, horizontal white stripes, with a little brass pig sitting on my cards. The pig's ass will be pointed at the last guy who sucked out on me /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stop by and say hello if you're around, don't mention 2+2 or SSH. Anybody needs a lift, PM me.

I'll probably be at Trump tonight playing 3-6. I'll be wearing a grey polo shirt and a standard issue Cubs hat, fitted. I'm 22 years old, blonde hair, about 6'2".

What's the appeal of Trump? I've only been there a couple times, but the wait times are longer, the dealers are god-awful. I could see if you were an NL player, since Harrah's doesn't have it, but otherwise...

Just wondering if my experience was based on a couple isolated bad nights.

I agree that the wait times are crazy and some of their dealers are horrible.

I play there for a couple reasons:

-I play 3/6 which Harrah's doesn't offer. I play mostly 2/4 online now and don't think I'd feel very comfortable at 5/10 yet. Plus I'm with a friend who doesn't play at all online and only plays in our tiny home games, so he doesn't feel comfortable putting any more than $100 down on the table.

-I guess the limit is the biggest deal, but I also feel like the poker room and the casinos themselves (Trump and Majestic Star) are a lot nicer than Harrah's. I haven't been there in about a year but I remember Harrah's as being kind of a dump. But I hear they're redoing their poker room, or did they already renovate that?

So that's about it. I play at Trump for the lower limits, but also like the atmosphere better.

Last I knew, the rake was ony 5% at the Trump 10/20 and 10% at the Harrah's. It's a small thing. The 10/20 wait isn't bad if you call ahead - you get an hour to arrive.

If you can beat $2-4 online you can crush Harrah's $5-10 game. Unless the stakes freak you out and you tilt. It plays like a passive PP $.05-1 game, I [censored] you not. When I play it, there is usually me, my friend, and 8 people who have no clue. Once every four sessions there may be one other coherent player following WLLM advice.

I know, I know. I've heard this before, and it's the same way at Hollywood in Aurora, the lowest limit is 5-10 and from watching for a little while you can label the players quickly and it plays like a .50/1 game. But the stakes freak me out a little bit still, 3/6 being the highest I've played. I just wouldn't like to go home and tell my wife "yeah I hit some bad cards and dropped $200, but I'll go back next week and do better, these players were horrible!"

I'll get to that level though, then I'll let you know when I'm at Harrah's. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

BTW, my first name is Stephen, so you know how to address me. "Hey ChicagoTroy from 2+2" wouldn't exactly work.

Upon further review, I may be at Harrah's or Trump.

I plan to play at the trump tomorrow, my first time there. Do I need to get there early to avoid that wait? Does anyone have the number to call ahead?

Have a good time. I had a great time last night, ran over the 3-6 table to the tune of $184 profit. ChicagoTroy, where were you? Harrah's??

Anyway, you can probably avoid the wait by getting there early, but I don't know what you're considering early. But you can call ahead at 1-888-21Trump, hit 0 for the operator, and ask for the poker room. They will put you on the list and you have an hour to show up. Last night I put my name and my friends on the list before we showed up, then when we got there we only had to wait about 15 minutes, we got there at about 8:00-8:15.

Have fun, the 3-6 was very juicy.

I was at Harrah's, and sat in my first hyper agressive $5-10 game. Partly this is because me and kleinstadt were at the same table and applying SSH concepts, and partly because there were two maniacs and a bunch of calling stations. That made for some violent swings. I ended up $100 after 2 hours, stadt was down $340, and we had to take off (got there late). Some rediculous bad beats beat the hell out of both of us, but I had AA hold up after a 6 handed preflop cap, had a set over set win, and caught trips on the river after a Helmuth disciple had been jacking the pot with 2 pair I thought was yet another bluff. Lots of bluffing, check-raising the river. NEVER seen that at Harrah's at $5-10 or $10-20. The $10-20 games I was watching beforehand were at least twice as easy.

Ordinarily I would have changed tables, but I wanted some experience playing in games like this at $5-10 rather than when I move to $20-40.

The game, I should add, was very beatable. The two hyper agressive guys had rediculous PFR standards. Kleinstadt, me and one other guy were the only solid players. But the aggression level could have made a 50 BB drop extremely easy. Much easier pickings at Harrah's.

I'll be there for the $10-20 tonight. Namknils, if we can work out the details in a fair way, I would consider buying 40% of your action at $5-10 so you could risk normal $3-6 stakes but get to dip your toe in at $5-10. Given your $2-4 PP results, I think you'd find it profitable. PM me if you're interested in discussing it.

Actually, I have other plans tonight. Isn't there some sort of festival in Lincoln Park tonight? That's where I'm going.

I'll let you know the next time I go to play, but I don't go much. Thrillhouse couldn't make it last night so he's really itching to go, we may head out soon.

Have fun if you go tonight. Post tomorrow.

Thanks for the info everyone, just got back from Trump. The players were terrible, I did not get many hands but ended up showing a $108 profit in 7 hours playing 3/6. Also won $50 playing Blackjack while waiting for a seat (I know, it is -EV, but I was bored). Not bad for my first live game.

The players at my table were absolutely awful. Worse than Party .50/1.00.

I plan to build up my live bankroll a bit then get into those 5/10 games. I will probably go up every saturday, let me know if you want to meet up.

Is anyone going tomorrow afternoon? I'm thinking about looking up one of the shuttles, since I'm on Lincoln avenue and I really don't feel like listening to bands all day tomorrow with a hangover.

I just got back from Trump. I lost $11 in four hours of playing 3-6 Hold 'em. I was on the list for about 20 min and then they started a new table. I must have gotten slotted with a lot of regulars, because the game wasn't as bad as last time I was there. There were only four or five to a flop instead of 8. They did show down some godawful hands though. I didn't have any standout hands except for overplaying AKs and having a slowplay attempt backfire when I flopped a set.
