The record for single day earnings on Jeopardy is 52000. Ken could have easily beaten that again, but chose to bid small on Final Jeopardy, and ended up w/ exactly 52000 - tieing the record for the third time. Is he doing this for tax reasons? That seems to be the only explanation. Anyone know why he goes out of his way not to break the record?

He wants to keep below the radar.

I don't think it's tax reasons. I've got to think once you've won over a million in a little over a month you're going to be paying a hefty tax bill anyway. I don't know why he's not breaking it.

Over a million dollars on Jeopardy, what a lucky stiff!! (Just kidding, trying to joke about how when it's poker everyone dismisses it as lucky /images/graemlins/cool.gif Ok, ok, not funny /images/graemlins/frown.gif)

Perhaps thinking that he is going to be on for a while, he wants to keep some records available for breaking so the show has something to promote/people don't get sick of seeing him take every opponent apart?

He agreed to not break the record so that they'd keep giving him the answers (questions) beforehand /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Spoiler:

I heard that today he actually does break the record and wins something like $72k /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I wasn't aware the IRS had a special tax on an extra dollar won on Jeopardy.

All of his winnings are ordinary income and will be taxed as such. He's a Mormon, so he tithes, which will reduce the gross Uncle gets to touch by 10%.

All I know is that at one point he had like... a lot. Another guy had a little, and the poor lady had zero. It made me feel uncomfortable and I changed the channel. Poor folks who've always wanted to be on the show and then get crushed by brainaic boy.

It's like heading to Vegas thinking you're hot stuff, sitting down and loosing every hand to the same guy and busting within an hour.

I got to be honest with you guys, I am starting to hate Jennings. I could really do without his stupid ass jokes with Alex. "Oh Alex, you know me, I'll wager 7200" (<crowd> Hahahahahahaha)

The only reason I watch now is to see him lose, and I will be happy when it happens..... that [censored] nerd!!!

I guess he broke it tonight...the reason he wasnt before, was because he didnt think it was fair to break the last guys record because the last guy didnt have the benefit of unlimited appearances

Because by some horrible twist of fate you're seated across from Negreanu or Ivey.

I'm wondering when the producers will tire of him and want him to lose. I guess it'll be obvious if one night the categories are "Bar recipes", "Swear words", "Famous porn stars" and "Monogamy".
