I have been casino whoring for a week now and I just have a quick question:

When the dealer has an A showing and offers insurance you obviously turn it down.
However when the dealer doesn't then immediately declare blackjack you then know that the dealers downcard is not a T.

Does the blackjack basic strategy take this into account?

Thanks

Tim

Out of personal interest:

which (if any) hand combinations does this information cause a change in basic strategy?

Thanks

I am not sure I understand your question. Basic Strategy takes into account the dealer does not have a Ten under his Ace. Basic Strategy determines if you should hit, stand, double down, split, etc. on your hand. If the dealer does have a Ten under his Ace, you lose immediately. There is no choice to make. It doesn't matter if you had 12, or 14, or 16, or an 8 and a 3. You lose.

It is only if the dealer doesn't have a Ten under his Ace, that there is even a need for Basic Strategy (or a choice as to what to do with your hand) therefore, Basic Strategy by default is assuming that the dealer doesn't have blackjack.

I guess the correct basic strategy for when the dealer does have blackjack, is to place your next bet on the next hand.

yes, sorry I misphrased the quesion:

Would any actions be changed *from* basic strategy *if* basic strategy did not take into account that the dealer cannot have BJ with an A showing?

or to put it another way:

If the dealer didn't check for blackjack with an A showing before it was your turn to act how would this change basic strategy?

sorry and thanks

What you describe would be "European No Hole Card" basic strategy, where the dealer doesn't take a hole card (and therefore you don't know if they are going to have a blackjack) until after the player plays his hand (and if the dealer does get a blackjack they take all bets).

In such a case, you would never double down or split against an Ace or Ten except for A,A vs T. All other plays remain the same.

If the dealer only takes your original bet in case of blackjack, and pushes any double down or split additional bets, then everything remains the same.

Never say always. There are occasions you may want to take insurance. If you happen to be a card counter and the deck is rich in tens you will want to take insurance. Other than that I agree with the always

www.blackjackinfo.com (http://www.blackjackinfo.com) has a great generator of basic strategy based on things like euro rules, aussie rules, number of decks, type of surrender, etc.

he said he was casino-whoring.
card-counting is not applicable to online-BJ play as most places re-shuffle after each hand.

Didnt understand that casino-whoring meant on-line. I agree with you
