View Full Version : Betting on the river

One of my biggest leaks, post-flop, is failing to bet (and betting when I shouldn't, but that's another story).

Here an example:

2/4 online HE

I'm on button with KJo and it's folded to me. I raise. SB calls, BB folds.

Flop comes T 9 4 r. Check, bet, raise, call.

Turn J. Check, bet, call.

River 8. Check, check.

SB shows ATo, and MHIG (of course).

When river brings a scare (even a mild one), I constantly fail to bet. MUTB?

Could someone please help me out with the concept of betting for value? Is it simply betting when you think your hand's best? How certain do you need to be?

Is it mostly a matter of understanding the game better, knowing your opponent, and reading the board; or are there any general indicators a begginer should be aware of?

I know it depends, and I will try to post more hands on this: when I fail to bet the river correctly, or when I bet improperly.

In the meantime, I would appreciate some general pointers.

Thanks.
