Heading to LV this upcoming weekend and into next week. Looking for 1 table or multitable action. I understand the Nugget and maybe the 'Shoe offer some form of daily tournaments.

Can anyone expound on what I might find. What kind of formats might I run into? What kind of competition?

Any and all responses appreciated!

Thanks.

You can do a search on weekly tournaments at Poker Pages using this link.

I played in the Golden Nugget's daily 11:00am tournament a couple times on my last trip to Vegas. The Nugget also does higher limit buy in tourneys at night, and even does satellites during the day to win your way into the night tourneys.

The 11:00am daily was cheap and fun, with mostly tourists in the games (only a few locals). GN's poker room is non-smoking too. The only negative we found was that the dealers were all pretty new (inexperienced) and tended to make a few mistakes, so you had to watch them carefully.

On Friday, there were 84 players, the top prize was just over $2000. On Saturday, they maxed out at 90 players and the top prize was about $2100. Top nine finished in the money each day - 9th place getting about $100 back.

$30 buy-in gets you T1500, another $3 dealer tip gets you T500 more. $20 rebuys during the first hour (T1500) if you drop below T1500, and one $20 add-on (T1500) at the end of the hour no matter what your stack size. 20 minute rounds. The first hour (during the rebuys) is Limit Holdem - then after the break and add-on, it switches No-Limit Holdem.

Blinds start at 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 500/1000, 1000/2000, etc.

Tournament starts at 11:00am, and ran until 3:30-4:00pm.

When we were there, they did a drawing for $100 at the end of the tournament. You just had to be present to win. They changed the drawing format the week after we left, though, so now you must be playing at a poker table in the poker room to be eligible to win - if no one wins, then the $100 carrys over to the next day, possibly building a big pot before someone wins it.

Have fun.
