5/10 at Turning Stone...

Hero is SB with 10 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif.
5 limpers (random seats) and hero completes. 6 to the flop.

Flop: 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif7 /images/graemlins/heart.gifJ /images/graemlins/club.gif
Hero checks, 4 limpers check, button bets, hero calls, all call.

Turn: 6 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Hero ???

I have had this situation a lot lately and i'm not sure how to play it at all when the button is the better. This hand is strong enough to slowplay but how do I do this when the button is the better?

Results later..

You got to bet here and see if a raise might come in at the end so that you can trap for a 3 bet. If you check:

a) might get checked through because board is scary
b) button might bet, you raise and the rest leave.

I also think an arguement can be made for betting out on the flop - this flop is one that is likely to hit a number of limpers and you have a good shot at getting multiple bets in on the flop.

on the turn, given the flop action, you have to bet out with your position relative to the bettor - if everyone in between is smart enough to realize they face a raise behind and fold, so be it, but you have to maximize your chance at getting 2-3 bets in on an expensive street and I certainly think the turn is the time people are more willing to play.

I bet this flop a lot of the time. They never put you on the straight, and sometimes a jack (or worse) will raise you.

I dont think there should be any argument- betting out on this flop is pretty clear cut for me unless the most aggressive players at the table are to my immediate left. The board has lots of opportunities for players to call with gutshots/ overcards/ pairs. Check raisin ghere thends to scare my typical opponents- betting out means nothing to them, weather or not they can hit a hand and show it off on the river as the winner is all that matters.

Results:

I bet out the turn and got 3 callers, including the button.

The Q /images/graemlins/heart.gif fell on the river.
I bet, 2 folds, button raised, I 3-bet, he called.

I showed and MHWG.

You gotta bet the flop. Since you didn't bet out on the turn and hope button raises.

Um, why didn't you bet the flop?

Peace,
