Hey ya'll. I attend university in New Orleans and turned 21 this past spring, after the term ended. I am gearing up to play cards in the fall in New Orleans and was wondering if anyone has any input about the games in New Orleans (Harrahs) and/or Biloxi. Thanks for your input!

I played low limit stud, 1-5 spread, at the harrahs when I was down there on vacation a couple months ago and won what turned out to be about 75 cents/minute. The table looked like mostly locals, but they were clueless.

yeah, I had the same experience. Better omaha players than stud and hold em.

Played a session of 6-12 hold'em there a few weekends back and the game was very soft. When someone asked about it, I couldn't remember what limit I had been playing for a a few seconds because of how astoundingly bad my opponents played.

If you're a hold'em player, you should hit that room for sure.

since it's your first time to play in a B&M, stick to peak times. friday and saturday night are best of course.

and try not to get stuck in that horrible backroom. youll feel like youre sitting in a closet away from the rest of the casino.

Howdy,
I was down in NO about a month ago and played at the Harrah's. It was, bar none, the loudest place I have ever been in for sure.
Other than the noise I liked playing there. Lots of tables and seemed to be a mix of locals and tourists. Some of the folks knew what they were doing some were horrible. I played pretty tight and then agressive when the good cards would hit and it payed off pretty well.
They had 3-6 and 6-12 holdem games going pretty much all the time, 1-5 stud going most of the time, a no limit game going most of the time and also had a game going where they played Omaha one round then Holdem the next. Can't remember what they called it but I think the limit was like 1-4-8-8 or something like that. I just played the 3-6 Holdem, had a great time and ended up +$300 for 3 sessions for a total of maybe 10 to 12 hours. Would have been better but had just terrible cards the first session on a Saturday night.
Have Fun!

The first casino I played in. Being a complete newbie and feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything going on, I was happy to get a table in the back room.

What hold'em limits do they normally spread? I will be in NOLA the around the end of this month, and plan on stopping in here.

They have two poker rooms? Do they have a coordinated wait list? Or do they keep all the omaha and stud in one room and all the holdem in another? How far apart are they?

He's right. It's very, very loud. Very loud.

I don't like Harrah's NO at all, and I'm not sure why. I've only played there once (though I've been twice, but the first time was pre-boom and they only spread omaha)

Playing the weekend NL game could be the most profitable thing in poker right now. How bad the players were was unreal.

If I remember correctly, they had 3-6 and 6-12 limits for holdem and usually a no limit game going.
They did have a list going but it if there was a wait is was only a couple of minutes. It was a separate list for each game.
It is really just one Poker area right off of the main casino floor. The "back" part of the room was still connected to the "main" part of the room. I can't remember exactly but I think the back room was actually just tucked under a lower ceiling and had like floor to ceiling columns or maybe a low wall or rail or something separating it from the Main room. There was kind of a separate little area off to the side by the cage with maybe two tables in it and that may be what they were talking about. But it was still actually part of the whole poker area.
Really, be prepared for a lot of noise. They even had a dixie band doing a parade right down the casino aisle right next to you a couple of times a night.

I have only had a chance to play at two casinos since the beginning of this year. The first of which was Harrah's in New Orleans. The place is extremely noisy. The only reason I didn't mind is because it seemed tame compared to the crowd at Jackson square earlier that night. (New Years Eve)
I played there for the next three nights. Not because of the friendly staff or the wonderful service...two things which seemed to be non-existant, but duemore to the holiday weekend and the influx of tourists for the upcoming Sugar Bowl, the fish were swimming in schools. The two hour wait on those three seperate nights was well worth it. I collected about $500 playing 3/6 Hold em, in about 16-18 hours of play over a 3 night period.

Now...more recently I played at the Grand Casino in Biloxi. (4th of July weekend) The Grand is a much more hospitable atmosphere. They are actually a resort and have more competition in the area, so they of course have a better habit of treating their customers well. I played one 12 hour session there, from noon to midnight. I hit an incredible run of cards about 8 hours in, driving my profits up to around $600 dollars (1-4-4-8 Hold Em) I ended up giving a little of this back to a new guy at the table that hit 4 jacks, costing me about $100 bucks. The room had free coffee and other refreshments (even hotdogs!) as well as cocktail servers. The dealers were polite and friendly. And best of all, the Hold Em bad beat jackpot was 50,000 dollars. The room is tucked back towards the corner of a slot machine floor, so it was a lot more peaceful. It contained roughly 20 tables playing a variety of games, and it also hosts two tournaments every week. My only warning is that even on a holiday weekend, there still seemed to be alot of regulars hovering over the deadmoney walking in the door. Overall, I found my experience in Biloxi to be not only more profitable, but more enjoyable as well.
