I just purchased two movies, Bull Durham or Field of Dreams. Which one is better?

My heart likes Field, and my head likes Bull.

BTW, in the novel, the writer abducted by Ray Kinsella is J.D. Salinger.

and it's not even close.

I like BD better. FoD bothers me because of the way it portrays Joe Jackson, who was in truth a lot more cuplable in the throwing of the series that he's made out to be.

Bull Durham, and it ain't close.

It's smarter, it's more nuanced, less predictable, has better actors and more interesting characters, and has groupies in it. Costner's best role since "The Big Chill." /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Both movies are good and speak volumes about the place of baseball in the American consciousness and about American myths, culture, etc in general. But Bull Durham is a better treatment of the game itself and also has more original and interesting things to say about greatness and self-determination.

Top Gun. Everything else is superfluous. Easily the best beach volleyball scenes, EVER.

I strongly disagree with this statement. If you want to see great volleyball action in film, then you need to see the movie Sideout (http://imdb.com/title/tt0100613/).

No way. The only thing better than T.G.'s volleyball scenes is the Shmitt's Gay commercial with Chris Farley and Adam Sandler. Besides, Sidout didn't have me in it. Finally, the volleyball in Sideout was unsafe. Everytime they shot the scenes, the crew was unsafe. I don't like things that are dangerous, and Sideout was dangerous. Some of those broads had egos writing checks their bodies couldn't cash (trust me, I tried).

The answer, of course, is both. Over and over again.

On a related topic, which is a better pocket: A/images/graemlins/diamond.gifA/images/graemlins/heart.gif or A/images/graemlins/spade.gifA/images/graemlins/club.gif?

Bull Durham stands up to repeated viewings a bit better (and is infinitely more quotable). For tugging at the heartstrings, however, the end of FoD is nigh unbeatable. Twist my arm, and I vote for Bull Durham.

Field of Dreams. Ray gets a do over with his deceased father has got to be the clincher. I like both movies.
