Was this the right thing to do? I didn't want to go out so early, and I had no read on this guy yet obviously. Later I found him to be a total Jackal, but I didn't know this at the time. I didn't think he'd be buying the pot with a 13BB raise in level 1... seemed a bit much.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t15 (10 handed)

SB (t620)
BB (t1170)
UTG (t800)
UTG+1 (t800)
Hero (t800)
MP1 (t800)
MP2 (t800)
MP3 (t800)
CO (t620)
Button (t790)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with J/images/graemlins/spade.gif, J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif.
UTG calls t15, UTG+1 raises to t200, 8 folds, UTG folds.

Final Pot: t240
Main Pot: t55 (t55), won by UTG+1.
Pot 2: t185 (t185), returned to UTG+1.

Results in white below:
No showdown. UTG+1 wins t240.

the question is, if he had KK, QQ or AA why would he way overbet the pot and almost guarantee just stealing the blinds. even against something like AQ you are only a small fav so I am not saying you were wrong to fold, but keep in mind that it is unl;ikey he has a higher pair than yours.

Early in a game without a read I'll fold that every time. Could be a straightforward player who bets big on big pairs... who knows? The point is you've invested nothing. Fold and play on... /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jasonstrassa always says betting large like that is an indication of someone with middle pair, like 88-QQ, who is deathly afraid of seeing a flop and having there be overcards. If that is correct, you're ahead three times as often as you are behind.

I don't know if you can risk making that kind of read here. But with all the goobers in SNGs, it could be some idiot betting A9, you won't get better hands very often, and the SNG becomes so much easier to play when you double up early. I honestly don't know what to recommend. I probably would have pushed, and it probably would have been a mistake.

Slider went too far.
New to SnGs and didn't know T200 was too large of a raise.
People WILL call T200 with junk hands.

There's many reasons why.
