How can this be helpful in hold'em postflop?

Basically it tells you that the odds the opponent had a certain hand are less (or more) based on the information.

Imagine that you hold AK and based on some read you have you know that your opponent either has AA or KK with equal likelihood. The flop now comes down A93. Now you know that given that flop your opponent is more likely to have KK than AA.
