Top Set, Scary Board, Unraised Pot

With this scary of a board, I was looking to take down this pot immediately, or at least get draws out, but went for the checkraise to get a few more chips out of the hand. Would it have been a better idea to bet out at a lower amount to see how the action went, or checkraised a lower amount, or was there no getting away from this? What about the rest of the play?

That's how I play it too. It's not THAT easy for someone to flop a straight, and even when he has it, you have many outs.

I would lose my chips on this hand. The only thing I do differently than you here is check raise all in on the flop. I don't see a reason to raise to 600 since you want to take this pot down now and you will likely not fold on the next card regardless.

I would be 100% happy to get all in all day every day with this hand. On the flop 89 is the ONLY hand that's beating you, and you can't be afraid to put all your chips in there with top set just because you don't have the nuts, ESPECIALY since you have a 1 in 3 shot to fill up if you're behind. I've seen bets and calls like the CO and BB from a range of hands: pair with a flush draw or straight draw (Ac7c, 8c7c, even 87o) smaller sets, or hands like 88 and 99.

I don't imagine you would have laid that down to any size raise (I sure as hell wouldn't) as you can't possibly give online players credit for such hands without some miraculous read. That said, since you're going to call a raise, you might as well just bet it in the first place (especially on a board like this where you have to charge draws). So forget the results, you made the right play.

I dont know if I call there, if this is a $10 tourney I guess I do, $30 I probably fold as 1 player already went all in and another has called. I dont care about the money but at a $30 tourney people usually play better and wont call an all in raise with that many crappy hands

I may have put a bet out there to see what action I'd get. But I can't imagine a situation that I'd be able to fold and sleep at night.

If someone flopped a straight, you are still only a 2:1 dog to hit (not terrible considering there are two callers). If they are on a flush draw (which is what I would think) you are a 3:1 fav to win the hand. When the K/images/graemlins/diamond.gif hits, you have to bet strong, and not let your see the river for cheap.
