4K in 4 Months

As 60k in 60 days is coming to an end I thought I might start my own quest, if people are interested.

I am an IT contractor in the UK meaning I have jobs that last 6-12 months with a couple of months break in between. I am in my current contract until November at which time I am hoping to do a 10 day trip to Vegas (I have permission from our lass so thats the first hurdle over). I would like to finance this and a bankroll for the trip completly out of poker funds.

I am currently pretty much a recreational player who tends to move between playing limit to sng's with a bit of MTT's and recently NL thrown in. I dont need to cash out of my bankroll so tend to be more unfocused and messing around than looking to expand the bankroll. I hope this quest will get me a bit more focused and improve my overall play.

Each week I can play on average three nights a week (I work away from home) with sessions of around 5 hours and maybe a cheeky session on a weekend family dependant. I also play one night a week live but will not include them in the results, I have played live 6 times so I expect my live growth to be a feature of the journal.

I intend to get the 1k with a mixture of ring games at 3/6 (only have a couple thousand hands at this level) along with poker bonus whoring and also possibly some casino whoring. Basically what I expect a lot of people here do.

I currently have some bonuses outstanding namely

Stars $220 (have 300 points towards the first $100)
Paradise $100
POkeroom $100 (gave up on this but may come back to it)

I have accounts at most of the major rooms and will include rake rebates in the calculations.

Plan for Week 1

Clear the Paradise bonus (probably at .5/1)

Hit the Crypto Sites for the monthly bonus (Poker and possibly the Blackjack too)

Take up the Gaming Club bonus on offer through the Zoo (not sure what level is best to clear that).

Any time remaining will PLay NL on Stars to progress towards clearing the bonuses there.

I would intend to do weekly updates basically based on feedback to this initial posting, if people want it I will post it, if not will do the quest without posting, but I suspect as the weeks of grinding at limit go on I would be looking for some support.

Make sure you check on the pokerroom bonus for an expiration date; you don't want to spend time clearing a bonus that isn't there any more. I know that Stars, Paradise, and UB don't have expirations on their bonuses.

If you're interested in adding another site, then I would suggest Pacific; they're offering a happy hour reload bonus this Saturday (only during a specific 2 hr period, I don't know it off the top of my head, I think it's around 7pm PST [they do their time on PPT:Pacific Poker Time]). The software isn't very good but the games are excellent; very fishy. No multitabling within the site. You might be able to do the new acct bonus and the reload; you probably should email support about this if you're interested, to clarify. I did the happy hour reload last month and was able to clear the $100 in about a week playing a few hours a night at $2/$4 LHE; clearing the bonus is based on contributed money to hands that are raked. Another thing to note, going in, is that they have one of the slower cashouts; may take upto a week to get money back into neteller. When you deposit the bonus gets placed into your acct and can be used instantly; you can even cashout your deposit money and just play with bonus money, I've never done this myself. Trying to clear that bonus with just $100 would take too long or cause me to bust. There's a 40 day limit to clear the bonus. Ok, that's it for my shilling/critique of Pacific.

stick to UB, for the next month. Play 1 SNG and 1-2 3/6 games at a time, you should earn enough UB bonus dollars from the SNG promo to keep your rake down over the entire 4 month period. You will also earn a ton of UB points which are always good for stuff

I actually have a pacific account as well with a bonus outstanding, I just hated it too much to play there, no matter how soft the games were I just could not stand the software. Maybe need to revisit it but I dont really want to invest any further cash into there.

I guess I'm a bit of a masochist for playing at Pacific. Paradise and Stars definately have much better software. I'll be keeping an eye out for your updates.

I gonna be honest with you Dave. I dont think setting targets for yourself is that good an idea as most targets are unachievable (look at some of the others on here). It tends to lead to players chasing the target once they fall behind it which in turn leads to you deviating from your A game. This in itself leads to a vicious circle effect of chasing more and more. Best thing to do is to play your very best game and see where it leads you and only play where you are comfortable. If your target is the achieved then great if not then you couldnt have done anymore.

Anyway good luck and i hope you do make your 4K in 4 months.
