Just curious what the odds might be on getting 6 straight pocket pairs. I just finished a session on Party where I was dealt, 8's 9's 10's Q's 8's then J's back to back.

Kinda strange. I'm not good with odds but I'd say thats pretty rare. Also i hit sets on the flop with 4 of them

well...i wish it was better..i actually came out even after all the sets...mainly because i caught a bad beat to another pocket pair set. My 8's set to his pocket K's set!

Someone correct me if I'm off, but I believe the odds of being dealt a pocket pair are 1 in 16. If that's the case, then you simply multiply 1/16 x 1/16 x 1/16 x 1/16 x 1/16 x 1/16 = 1/16,777,216.

wow...with those odds i should start playing the lottery or something /images/graemlins/wink.gif oh nevermind, its only partypoker...so the odds are probably a lot more in my favor

This is usually the part where some smart ass comes in and tells you they got 75o, JTs, 48o, TT, and AKo on consecutive hands, and that the odds against getting those exact hands in that order consecutively are astronomical, every deal is independent, blah blah.

While that's true, I think as human beings and not computers, we tend to notice the consecutive PP and find it a little more interesting. So to the probabilities geeks waiting to pounce, phooey on you! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

yah, I see how the probabilities don't quite work, because each hand is an independant trial so there isn't any compound probability. But still, if someone gets pocket Aces 6 times in a row it does seem a little strange. (I've seen pocket aces 4 times in a row on pokerstars)

The probability of being dealt a pocket pair is 1 in 17. The odds are 16-to-1. The probability of 6 in a row is (1/17)^6.
