I wanted to wait till I had a decent slew of hands so I could make some posts like this as subjects.

I picked an easy/boring one to do first to get the hang of it, so I can make some of the more interesting ones even better.

The following post is AA and KK only. It is in natural HH form, and it is written out with commentary meant to be played on the replayer.

Download the replayer (http://www.tightpoker.com/replayer/replayer.zip), or check out the Replayer website. (http://teamfu.freeshell.org/replayer.html)

You can use the replayer from the web, but I think it works faster if you download it. Simply cut and paste the following HHs into the box.

I look forward to hearing some suggestions on subjects to tackle, and the format to use. Hope this helps my game, and possibly some others who are starting out on SnGs. All you SnG Gurus please get involved in helping me out to make this a good series.

Stats so far.
10's
66 played
$585 profit
56% ITM
80% RoI

20's
45 played
$130 profit
33.33% ITM
13% RoI (YUCK)

The 20's havent been harder, just a little rough patch. My last 4 were 3rd, 4th,4th,4th. With the incredible luck I had at the 10's I am fine with a rough start at the 20's, but my RoI better increase.

Original post (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/favlinker.php?Cat=&Entry=27384&F_Board=singletable &Thread=793673)
Week one (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/favlinker.php?Cat=&Entry=27383&F_Board=singletable &Thread=812164&partnumber=&postmarker=)
Move up early? (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=singletable&Number=817984& fpart=&PHPSESSID=)

Some of the future subjects I would like to hit on are:
HU play
Stealing those blinds
Overplaying hands preflop

<< In retrospect this would have been a good time to lay down AA. QJ isnt that unlikely. I have the Ace of clubs so it is less likely someone pushed on the flush draw. Someone could have 2 pair or even a set. The blinds are still small, and there is no reason to go out now with enough chips to battle back. None the less I have had AA 39 times and this is my only loss so far (I am getting lucky)
<< SOoo what do you all think? Is it too weak to lay this down? or a good laydown. I think it would have been a good laydown, and I got attached to my hand. It was the second all in that should have sent my alarm off.

Thanks for posting this. It was a blast to watch. I can't wait to see more in the future, but I wouldn't personally recommend that anyone else view it on blitz. It goes a bit too quickly for me.

Thanks a lot for the response. I hope people get something out of this, and it should help my game too.

It took me over an hour to review and enter the hands in with commentary.(Next time should be faster) So if people dont like this, then Im not going to waste my time.

Any more suggestions are welcome... Is blitz too fast to see the action?

only two hands where I didn't really agree with your play were hands 2 and 3.

Hand 2: ALWAYS raise more with AA in this position. You are most likely going to back your whole stack with AA, so don't let people bust you for 75 T$. Either raise to 200 or push there hoping people think you are on a steal.

Hand 3: I would either min raise back PF because he cant fold to that and it totally comits him. You can then either set him in on the flop or let him hang himself.

Otherwise all play seems straightforward.

A lot of people like to raise to 150-200ish with big pairs in early rounds.

I dont know if I like it. I guess I feel that in doing so I pick up the tiny blinds too often, and never get any value for the AA. Throwing in a bet for $200 right away will often scare some hands away like AT or AQ. I want people to call my preflop bet, but I dont want to be up against more then 2 people at the flop.

I Cant think of many times where its proper to coldcall a huge raise preflop, and even the party suckers will often fold to the big raise. I feel I get a lot more value by betting a reasonable amount. It also gives me more chance to set anyone all in if they try to make a play back at me.

Anyone else have thoughts on starting bet for AA or KK?

On hand #3.. Isnt this the HU match? Dont you think slowplaying a monster HU is a good idea? If I move all in there is a good chance he will fold. I want him to be the aggressor and run into a brick wall...

I am just going to post about the hands that I think could have been played a little differently.

Hand 2: Raising more pre-flop is a must. With a limper behind, 4-5xBB is a good sized raise as opposed to the 2.5xBB raise you made. I'm not sure if this would have changed anything, but the limper would have had to make a major mistake calling such a raise with only QJ. The small raise is giving him the correct odds to call.

Hand 3: With the blinds at 250/500 and his raise to 1000, he is going to call an all-in raise pre-flop 90% of the time. If he doesn't, so be it, you just took 40% of his stack without having to see a flop.

Hand 7: Not that it would change anything, but when the action gets to me, I would push right there as opposed to just calling.

Hand 9: I'm not a big fan of min raises.

Hand 13: Reraise, don't call pre-flop.

Hand 15: I like the check on the flop. Desperate short stack is bound to go all-in here.

Edit: Great post. I enjoyed watching these a lot. I might have to make my own post with comments in the hand histories. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

To expand on this...

Let's suppose two things:
1) Hero flips his AA face up before anyone has to act
2) Hero tells the table "I will push all-in on this flop, regardless of what comes out"

Hero is only a 4:1 favorite over QJs. Therefore, QJs needs to get merely 300 from pot+hero when its 75 back to him (175 in pot already, hero has 455 left). If hero bets 200 instead of 125, QJs needs to get 600 from pot+hero when its 150 back to him (250 in pot already, hero has 380 left). In this case, with hero's small stack he can lay QJs incorrect odds with a 200 raise. But if hero's stack was 900, would we tell Hero he has to bet over 300 to "keep QJs from getting odds to call" (cost 250:win 300+50+600)? I think most people would say 300 is a massive overbet. So alot of people would respond that NL tournament play isn't always about giving someone correct or incorrect odds, it's about aggression, fold equity, putting pressure on people, etc.

PS: The above numerical analysis is fatally flawed because QJs can't see the river for free, it only gets 3 cards to look at before it has to face the all-in flop bet. I think QJs will flop two-pair/trips something like 1 in 20, and flush draw/OESD/two-pair/trips something like 1 in 4?

I agree I should have raised more here.. I was short stacked and really wanted to double up. I got over excited of the thought of tripling so I didnt raise enough.. I should have raised 250ish or just pushed.
BUT what do you think about calling that flop? This is my main concern.

Hand 9: I'm not a big fan of min raises

I try to mix it up a little, but I certainly undrstand why.

I didnt give it any thought about not being able to reraise if the limper went all in. In hinde sight Yes I would have minreraised here.

Thanks for your input Braves

With two all-ins in front of you on hand 2, this might be a spot to lay down AA. There are a lot of hands that beat you. That being said, I don't think the call is that bad with the amount of poor play at the $20 level.

glad to see you got a "slew" of replies ss /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
but i dont really have time right now to view all the hands. I was just wondering about before, you said that you were gonna play 20-40 games a day, and youve only played 66 10's!!! thats like 2 days worth. Whats going on? dont get me wrong, your doing great! but i think you could be doing even better if you stuck to your 20-40 games per day...

I want to average about 30 games a day/5 days a week. A few rl things have gotten in the way, and I thank you for keeping me in check.

I dont want to play during the daylight hours. I ran into a tough streak the other day, and when that happens I like to back off a little bit, and relax.

I have played 66 of the 10's and 56 of the 20's.

One of my first posts was delays and snags because I took a trip to the Bay, and didnt return till after the weekend.

I didnt really get underway with the project full time till 7/9 and I played 34 that day.
7/10 I played 21
7/11 38(and made $64 for my trouble)
7/12 11 and brought myself out of the slump making $318 in those 11

That night I ate dinner late and fell sound asleep on my couch so I called it another early night. I will try to keep an everage of 150 a week of which I am behind.

This project started 7/1 but for the most part didnt really get in full swing till 7/9 (4 days not counting today) so I am not too far behind at all having played an average of 26 a day. I even hope to play enough to make it an average of 25 since the 1st of July. I hope I have the willpower.

For those that watched the display on the replayer... can you tell me please..

was it too long? too short? just right? were the pauses and comments placed well?

I want to end up having a good project here, so any help is great.

I think my next one will be called "BUSTED"tag line "To push or not to push" and I will put in all the times I busted so we can see how many could be avoided. This is NOT about bad beats. It will have a few, but more or less its just about poker aggression.
