stars 10+1 rebuy. i'm utg with a little under 5x the big blind and i'm worried this might be my last chance to win a pot without seeing a showdown. the blinds are increasing in 5 minutes, long enough for me to pay mine at this level (15k/30k) but if i drop 45k in my blinds and then it goes to 20k/40k i'll only have 2.5 BB's. there are 14 players left and i'm in 12th. next pay increase comes at 9 players left, and obviously the real money is in the top handful.

i'm dealt a7s utg, 8 handed. push it or muck it?

BB is pretty short-stacked.

Fold.

At an 8 person table, and UTG, you're in horrible position. Take it in the chin for your BB and SB, and then steal with a 3xBB steal after you are through the blinds. One steal buys you another orbit, two steals gives you an extra 45k in chips.

Bummer to finish like that. =/

I think you had to make this move for all the reasons you mentioned. When no one calls, you increase your stack by about 40%, so it's well worth the risk. And even if you get called, and even if we assume you will always be up against a dominating hand, you will still have a 30% chance to suck out.

It would be great if you could fold this hand and just steal from the button to get your blinds back, but first of all there is no guarantee of everyone folding to you once you let the blinds pass, and you only have a few hands to make that steal before the blinds go up and take away almost all your steal equity.

I agree with Fnurt. I don't fold here.

I agree with the preflop fold of A7s. Just too good a chance to be up against a dominating hand that will call with 7 players still to act.

I do disagree with making a 3x the BB steal when you have only ~5x the BB (which will in fact be 3.5x the BB once you go through the blinds). Your only moves here are all-in and fold.

Any hand is good enough to push if you don't think you will be called. If you want some showdown value then A7 isn't very good. I wouldn't push here, because a big ace dominates you, and a pocket pair probably has your 7 covered, so again you're drawing to 3 outs. I think I'd rather play something like QJ where both your cards might be live, but again, If you think you will steal the blinds more than 1/2 th etime, I'd probably push too.

I'm still surprised to see some people say push here. He's not in EMERGENCY status. He's in trouble, but not dead. Take the blinds, and you still have 3xBB after that (Assuming you get nothing in the BB or SB).

Now, if you're in MP or LP, its autopush. Just not fun thinking of 7 people acting after A7 push when they all know you're desperate.

And strassa will pay for calling me a weak tighty!
