I'm spending some time up here in MA right now, and it just seems like people up here are wicked cool, and legit. People from around here have a funny sense of humor, love their sports teams, and drink like fish. This place is awesome. The roads totally suck though.

Probably since, except for the bad roads/drivers, terrible weather and no Red Sox championships since 1918, this is the best place on the planet to live.

Edit: I left out a couple except fors. High taxes and crooked politicians. I think that's it though.

Say, "wicked pissa" around people in their 50s.
They'll smile and buy you a drink.

You're right about the taxes. But if you think politicians in MA are Crooked, take a look at what's going on with our neighors to the south. I was condisering moving to RI last year because you can still find affordable real-estate, I decided against it though once I learned about the political climate and the scandals they've got brewing there.

Buddy is just the tip of the Ice Berg. There are very few honest politicians in Rhode Island.

1) much closer to Foxwoods
2) Federal Hill Italian food is better than North End Italian food.
3) PawSox & Baby B's don't eat up half your bankroll to see a game
4) Providence was a dump before Buddy, is a great city now
5) WEEI Sports talk is FM here - better reception.
6) Why are political scandals a turn off?
We have a great one brewing now, with the Governor vetoing the casino bill and the legislature about to override. Bottom line is he's afraid of losing the sweetheart deal with GTech and he just wants to stick it to Chief Thomas.

7) Did I mention we're a lot closer to Foxwoods?

I'll apologize to Louisiana in advance, but Rhode Island may well be the most corrupt state in the country.

Kurn, you guys got Newport too. Wife and I spend one week every Summer there and this year it starts on Friday and as an added bonus found out the Tall Ships will be there!

That's assuming those 6 months aren't Oct-March, correct?

I haven't ever been to Boston, but want to make it to Fenway someday. West Coast is where it's at though, fools.

correct. winter is cold, but it's give and take. being super cold sucks but at least you're in the best city in america.

the summer is really the time to be in boston. the best part about summer in boston is all the college kids go home to wherever they live.

I lived in downtown Boston for over 2 years. Boston is horrible for the most part. Let me count the ways....

- The weather absolutly stinks. I walked to work through freezing sideways rain constantly. Itis rarely nice outside there. Snow was even worse.

- Sports fans are annoying. They say very little that makes much sense and love to hammer thier own players. Very rarely exhibit and sanity. (i.e. they sell Yankees suck T-shirt outside Fenway at games when the Yanks arent even in town - pathetic)

- The chicks are nasty -never been in a city with so few good looing women.

- College town - I think if you are in college you prolly like the nightlife, but once you are out it is quite pathetic.

- Roads and Drivers are the worst in the country - this is not even debatable.

- Even been downtown at night? its a goast town, horrible.

- The accent is brutal, its downright offensive to hear people taaak there. Everyone sounds like they have no education (although this is not the case).

On the flip side the golf is pretty good for teh few months you can go outside and there are some awesome restaurants in Boston. Thats about all that is good.

I live in the Bay Area now, while there are some of the same problems here, the weather alone makes a return to teh east coast immpossible.

Hmm, nice defense. I dont spell check so I am sure there are plenty of mistakes.

Please don't take part of my message and post it by itself....I specifically mentioned that it was NOT teh case that people were not educated, just that they sounded as such.

The rest is all my experiences there....

Don't worry. The mayor's nickname is 'mumbles'.
Did you live in Roslindale too?

Nope, the leather district (which is by south station). My little neighborhood I actually liked, but the rest of the city is quite lacking.

I've never eaten in Federal Hill, but the best Italian food I've eaten in RI is at the Florentine Grille in North Providence. That place is great.

3) PawSox & Baby B's don't eat up half your bankroll to see a game

[/ QUOTE ]

I much prefer a P Bruins game over a Boston Bruins game. It's cheaper, there's more fights, and it's much easier to get in and out of Providence after a game. I'm not crazy about the P Sox, It's just not the same as Major League baseball.

Yes, for all of Buddy's faults, he did a lot for Providence when he was in office.

I find the scandals to be quite entertaining It's just that I'd prefer to watch them transpire from a safe distance over the border where thay have less impact on my life. Unfortunately I still work in RI so I haven't been able to completely shield my self from the fallout. Especially since I work for CVS. It will be interesting to see how things go for CVS now that they don't have a senator or two in their back pocket.

Or Maine... I grew up in Maine and we said wicked cool all the time. I still say it sometimes.

People in Boston often have a really sharp, sarcastic sense of humor in my experience.
