I know everyone says to go for first when in the money, and even during bubble time, but I find that heads-up play is such a crapshoot that the extra chips don't necessarily guarantee first. Even with a 3:1 chip lead, I have lost heads-up, and vice versa.

This is on Stars and UB, when the blinds are still manageable during heads-up play (each player may have about 20 BB left). If I'm leading when heads-up starts, I'm generally able to get everything in as a favorite, maybe 60%, which is not even close to a guaranteed win. Is that the best I can hope for?

Even when I notice my opponent playing too tight (most of the time), it's still a struggle to get those last chips when you're rarely more than a 60% favorite.

Am I just bad heads-up, or does a 2:1 chip lead not mean too much?
