If you were in a situation where you were paid to teach a class to "students" learning Hold'em, how would you do it? Similarly if someone paid you to teach them individually, how would you?

First assume that they know how to play (rules & structure, but no strategy) and second, assume that they are only familiar with poker hand rankings and do not know the specifics of Hold'em.

Specifically, Where would you start and how and where would you progress?

Start from the beginning of the hand and go to the end. Pre-flop first, then flop, then turn/river. Tell them what hands to get involved with, and what hands to throw away. Don't forget to emphasize the importance of position. I think this is one of the biggest pit-falls for beginners. Well, right after playing too loosely.

There's a reason teachers use textbooks. Get Hold 'em Poker by Sklansky and learn 'em by the books.

More importantly why.
