Am I an idiot or my friend an idiot? He tells me this was a horrible call and not a bad beat, and I deserved to lose this hand because I was not enough of a favorite pre-flop to justify this call. I figure I'd go to the experts to see who's wrong. I put him on a worse hand then A6 pre-flop.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (7 handed)

According to 2dimes...

cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
As 6s 1049034 61.26 653838 38.18 9432 0.55 0.615
Ks 8s 653838 38.18 1049034 61.26 9432 0.55 0.385

Your a 61% favorite to win this but I probably would have folded in your position. I just couldn't imagine I would be a favorite with A6s here.

Its not a bad beat because all his outs were good, you are only about a 60% favorite. I'd probably make the call as well (although a lot of others here may disagree) since he was shortstacked and could be making a move with a lot of hands in this spot.

So in a sense you are both wrong.

An acceptable call since you were slightly favored, but I don't make that call with A-6s. You had nothing invested in that pot and there were still players to act behind you.

He's right. If he flashed me his cards, I would of course call, but A6s is rarely a big favorite over any two cards. In fact, it is nearly impossible to be dominating someone when you hold A6s. This is an easy muck.

The argument here is not that it was a bad move. I agree that call should not be made especialy with players to act behind you, however, the argument was that you were not enough of a pre-flop favorite. I believe you were. Against some players, I would take a 60 percent all in everytime. If your oponent is dangerous I think it was a good call but I wouldn't get into the habit of calling with such weak cards. Anyone who says 60 percent favorite isn't good enough against any player is lying. But I wouldn't say it was a bad beat, the board was just not fortunate for you.

It's unlikely that the raiser is holding A2-A5 or 26-K6. Perhaps "nearly impossible" is an exaggeration.

He likely doesn't have a weaker 6, and weaker Aces will chop a good portion of the time.
Maybe I should have changed nearly impossible to very unlikely.
Better.

First of all, like many of the others have said this is not a bad beat.

Secondly this is a poor call. You have a lot of chips and even if this guy is a bluffer it is very likely that he has A/7-K or a pair > 6. In all of the situations your hand is dominated. The blinds were starting to get high and short stacked players are going to start making marginal plays its best for you not to be making marginal plays right alongside them. I personally would fold that hand 9 times out of 10 unless that player was just an absolute maniac. At anyrate it would take extraordinary circumstances to warrant a call.
