View Full Version : River action after turn checked through

01-31-2002, 11:36 AM
Hi. Aaron Lovi posted this hand to the small stakes forum ("hand #4"), but he explained too much about the hand, I think, to get unbiased results. I think it would be interesting to see how higher stakes players react to this situation on the river. Suppose it's a 10-20 game.

If you've seen the original post, please DON't respond.

I copy/paraphrase Aaron here:

I have Qd2d in BB. There are 2 callers (who are loose-passive and have played every hand so far) to the button who raises. The SB calls. Now the button is a loose raiser and the SB has gone to war with him a couple of times.

I call.

The flop is AA6 with 2 diamonds. I open the betting and everyone calls.

The turn is a 7s and its checked around.

The river is a 2c and its checked to the button who bets. Now the SB folds and I can see the other two will fold. I decide to raise. The button reraises.

I like just calling on the river to pick off a possible bluff, especially since the hero saw that the opponents in between himself and the button were folding.

well, it looks like the button had a flush draw, and busted, along with our hero.

the 6 had to be a diamond, and we have the 2d, so the only question is, does the button have the 7d?

many players will just roll the 7 if they have it.

i would call with my pair of 2's.

the button raised pre-flop, not on the flop...

now it is a much tougher decision.

i still probably call.
